Ep1 Comm Tech Reader Sealed 1998

The CommTech Reader, released with the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace toy line, is a device that interacts with CommTech Chips to play character-specific lines from the movie. It resembles a communication device like the one Qui-Gon Jinn uses in the film. The reader scans the chips and can also be programmed to play specific lines without scanning. It also includes default sound effects like blasters and lightsabers. 

• Functionality:

  The reader scans CommTech Chips, which each Star Wars Episode I figure in the toy line came with. When scanned, the reader plays character-specific lines from the movie. It also has pre-programmed lines for each character, so you don't need to scan the chip every time.
• Design:

  The reader has a central button to activate it, four character buttons for pre-programmed lines, and a speaker on the back. It also includes a belt clip.
• Interaction with Figures:

  When held near a figure with a compatible CommTech chip, the reader can create the illusion of the figure speaking, according to a review on YouTube.
• Additional Features:

  The reader also features default sound effects like blaster fire and lightsaber sounds.
• Automatic Shut-off:

  The device automatically powers off after a short period of inactivity.
